ABOUT ME

I live in Iowa City, Iowa, a UNESCO City of Literature. In my nearly 15 years here, I have:

  • written for broad audiences in varied genres, from visual novels to web copy, short stories to lesson plans;

  • taught courses and workshops in professional communication, literary publishing, and video game writing;

  • produced interactive online learning modules and assessments for K-12 and adult audiences;

  • reviewed and revised written content to meet the highest standards of accuracy, reliability, and accessibility;

  • taken lead on administrative tasks such as data gathering, communications, purchasing, and hiring;
  • served as a project manager and trainer, fostering motivated, high-functioning teams.

Before migrating to Iowa, I obtained my MFA in Fiction at New Mexico State University, where I taught composition and creative writing and served as a managing editor of the literary magazine Puerto del Sol. I am a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, and pursued a double major in creative writing and English Education at Butler University, where I met my husband and fellow writer Mike Meginnis. Together we founded Uncanny Valley Press, an online and print publication with a focus on innovative narratives and technology-inflected works. My personal projects include Strange Clay, a series of short stories set in an environmental post-apocalypse, and The Fight, a visual novel where the player searches memories for the source of cracks in a broken relationship. Works in progress include a book of essays about the Toho Godzilla films as well as Road to the Fightimal Master, a modern JRPG for which I am developing the script, gameplay, music, and pixel art.

I thrive on projects that require an intersection of creative and technical problem solving, and I am always eager for opportunities to expand my skills with new engines, tools, and media. I am also well-versed in education principles from K-12 to college and career education. My strengths lie in quickly creating practical solutions out of complexity, communicating ideas engagingly to an audience, and ensuring that everyone has equal opportunity to gain value from the finished product. Ultimately, I hope to do work that synthesizes my skills in writing and interactive media, with the goal of bringing people unique narrative experiences that positively impact their lives.
